Towel-Resisted Neck Extension

A towel behind your head becomes a resistance machine for the muscles that pull your head back over your shoulders - the exact opposite of desk posture. Cheap insurance against the stiff, achy neck that creeps in by Friday.

How to do it

  1. 1

Sit tall and loop a towel around the back of your head, holding an end in each hand in front of you.

  2. 2

Pull the towel gently forward to create resistance.

  3. 3

Push your head back into the towel, keeping your chin level - don't look up at the ceiling.

  4. 4

Hold the pressure for 5-10 seconds.

  5. 5

    Relax slowly and repeat.

Common mistakes

  • Tilting the head up instead of gliding it straight back
  • Yanking hard on the towel - resistance should be firm but gentle
  • Shrugging the shoulders while pushing

Dad tips

  • Pair it with chin tucks for a complete two-minute neck reset.
