Towel-Resisted Neck Extension
A towel behind your head becomes a resistance machine for the muscles that pull your head back over your shoulders - the exact opposite of desk posture. Cheap insurance against the stiff, achy neck that creeps in by Friday.
Demonstration
Sets
2-3
Reps
8-10 holds of 5-10s
Rest
30-45s
How to do it
- 1
Sit tall and loop a towel around the back of your head, holding an end in each hand in front of you.
- 2
Pull the towel gently forward to create resistance.
- 3
Push your head back into the towel, keeping your chin level - don't look up at the ceiling.
- 4
Hold the pressure for 5-10 seconds.
- 5
Relax slowly and repeat.
Common mistakes
- Tilting the head up instead of gliding it straight back
- Yanking hard on the towel - resistance should be firm but gentle
- Shrugging the shoulders while pushing
Dad tips
- Pair it with chin tucks for a complete two-minute neck reset.
